HYGAIN-Trainer Strike Rate Award
(1st prize: $500 Voucher)
Nexus Risk Day was a another brilliant day out at Percy Spencer and well attended for a midweek meeting, with the crew from Nexus Risk providing great atmosphere in the pavilion and supporting the Club through their sponsorship/patronage.
The opener went to Rogers Racing stalwart POTENT SECRET after a well-timed leader’s ride from Leading Rider Daniel Staeck. The second event of the day went to was a Steve Wolfe quinella with STARORIO passing WHAT ABOUT MOSES right on the line. Leading metro trainer Adam Durrant doesn’t always bring horses to Albany, but he was able to defy the betting drift when GENZEBE showed an impressive turn of foot in the USG Boral Maiden. The fourth event of the day gave travelling trainer Terry Brennan his second concessive win at the track, with progressive stayer COOL WITNESS. At $20 it was the longest priced winner, securing Terry a Hygain Voucher for his troubles. Race 5 saw the Rogers/Staeck combo (currently at 27% strike rate) combine for READ THE RIOT ACT’s second win in three starts. Steve Wolfe again struck in Race 6 and Race 8 with stable favourite JESTER ROCK and then the upcoming GO CRYING. Race 7 went to ITS NOT TRADING and Stephen Sheehy, which was reward for effort for a horse that has been ultra-consistent this preparation and interestingly won at this same meeting last season.
Daniel Staeck’s double sees him extend further in front in the Jockey Premiership, now sitting seven wins clear of Mitchell Pateman and the injured Natasha Faithfull.
Steve Wolfe and Roy Rogers’ head to head battle in the trainer’s premiership went another round with both trainers trading blows. Wolfe’s three winners against Rogers’ two gives him a three win lead over Rogers.
This season’s weekly Hygain Winners:
Alan Mc Namarra Jnr 18-11-18 Count Kala ($31)
Gerry Hughes 30-11-18 Chengdu ($8)
Dixie Solly 14-12-18 Top Agent ($20)

Roy Rogers 11-01-19 Turpin’s Daughter ($11)

No change in first place on the Hygain strike rate leader board this week, however both Rogers and Wolfe’s wins have seen them marginally extend their winning strike rate. Stephen Sheehy’s 15th Starter of the Season has seen him jump straight to outright third, whilst Dixie Solly and Des Attwell both drop percentage and spot on the leader board.
